Once a topic is set up, SHIFT AI can answer natural language questions instantly—without requiring templates.
Ask a Question
In the search bar, type your question using plain language (e.g., “What were total sales last quarter?”).
From the dropdown, click the “Ask SHIFT AI” button at the bottom of the suggestions list.
SHIFT AI will:
Analyze your question
Generate the appropriate SQL
Run the query
Display the results
Question Result Actions
The same actions that can be taken with Verified Question results are available for SHIFT AI results. SHIFT AI results also have a few additional features.
Verify Results
If Users want to ensure the results are accurate, they can request verification by an expert. This will add the request to the Search Experience Request queue for review.
Modify Results
Users with Admin or Creator roles have additional controls:
Inspect and Modify SQL: View or edit the auto-generated SQL and refresh the results.
Save as a Verified Question: Save verified templates for questions that are asked often, will be used for nightly insight generation or should be used by the LLM as an example for other SHIFT AI queries.
Modify Topics & Descriptions: Train SHIFT AI by making sure your topics are well-configured with the right columns and descriptions. Learn more in Train SHIFT AI to Understand Your Data.
